Is it advisable to rent a car for my stay?

We highly recommend renting a car if you want to explore Sicliy region but note that is not easy to drive in Taormina town and we recommend to opt for a taxi or private driver when there. If you choose to rent a car, please inquire with the rental company about ZTL zones to avoid fines. These areas restrict access to non-residents, and driving in them may result in penalties.

Do I need an international driving license to rent a car?

If you plan to rent a car, you may need an International Driving Permit (IDP). For those traveling from North America, you can obtain an IDP through your local AAA office or apply online via the AAA website.

Are there private transfer options available?

Yes, there are private transfer services you can book in advance. Find useful numbers in the Staying there page of this website. We recommend securing your private transfers ahead of time. Please note that taxi services are very limited in the area, and it is crucial to book in advance to ensure availability.

Do I need to obtain a visa to travel to Italy?

For US citizens: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months post-travel and have several empty pages. If you need to apply for a passport, or renew it, please do it sooner than later, as rush feed can be costly.
